When it comes to commercial vehicles we never think Volkswagen Transporter. The minibus flower child doesn’t have half the features of work, given its traditional inhabitants. It’s purely cultural, since the house built the car in 1950 considering the needs of companies of the time and the pitfalls of competition in its segment. In fact, that year marked only the debut of the first 10 units, which became 160,000 just six years later, when the power plants in Wolfsburg production cycle of the car was moved to Hanover.

The prototypes had already been developed and run in, is called “Model 29″ and had eight in all, six vans and two Kombi.
Initially the car should have been based on the platform of the Volkswagen Beetle, but later selected a more durable and suitable for use in charge. The Beetle, however, continued to inspire and mechanical technology: the engine was the same, with 25 horsepower (after a few years led to 34, and in 1963 up to 42).

The cargo spaces allowed for an enormous capacity for the epoch, 4.6 cubic meters per 750 pounds of maximum transportable weight. Over the years the configuration of the vehicle underwent several changes, by points of aesthetics. In 1955 he was even included a “climate” natural, the window on the front of the vehicle can let the air inside the car. Among the options were offered the ashtray, a clock, grip handles, radio and, among other things, the fuel level indicator, which was promoted to accessory series in 1961.

The friendly commercial vehicle ceased production in 1967, although in Brazil stood until 2000. Worldwide may well count 2.9 million Volkswagen Transporter products, including Brazil, Mexico and Germany. They seem many, but in reality when we see one we turn to admire like the story to four wheels.
