After allowing users of smartphones and mobile phones to download free Nokia Ovi Maps, the Finnish company plans to extend the service even with devices not covered by its brand.
A few weeks ago, Nokia has made available for free for some of its terminals browsing service Ovi Maps. This application is compatible with all devices equipped with Symbian operating system and can be downloaded from January 31 only in some European countries. The Finnish company’s goal is to extend the service to the entire range of Nokia phones within the next few months.
According to rumors, however, the satellite navigation software could also open a device running Android Phone and Windows 7. The information was disseminated by Greig Williams, General Manager of Nokia for South-East, which would have emphasized that Ovi Maps is intended to capture “other mobile platforms.”
If this news is confirmed, the service Nokia Ovi Maps no longer exclusive to owners of smartphones and Finnish mobile phone company, but could extend to a wider pool of users, with huge advantages in terms of profits, popularity and diffusion. At the moment this is only an indiscretion, which some experts tend to deny. We’ll see!
