Intel Core i7-940XM processors Quad Core Extreme

Announced several weeks ago, the new flagship processor Intel Core i7-940XM Intel Calpella platform will be launched during the third quarter of 2010.

Belonging to the Extreme series, Intel Core i7-940XM is a CPU frequency of 2.13GHz Quad Core capable of supporting eight threads. Through the Turbo Boost function, the processor can be overclocked up to 3.3GHz. Intel Core i7-940XM has 8MB of L3 cache and supports DDR3 1333MHz memory. At its launch, the Intel Core i7-940XM be presented simply as the world’s most powerful mobile processor.

Unsurprisingly then, it has a TDP of 55W, away from the consumption of models currently on the market. In other words, we see Core i7-940XM integrated into a desktop replacement rather than an ultraportable. We do not know at the time if it can be installed on laptops rather than classical or optionally customize the configurations typical of some companies, like Dell and its Alienware laptops.

The second solution instead, Core i7-920XM (2.0GHz to 3.2GHz), will be available only on some rare configurable laptops. The new CPU Core i7-940XM launch will cost equal to 1054-1096 dollars.
