A few days after launching an iPad by Apple, Amazon is forced to align the prices of digital books sold through its portal to the competition. At the same time, this puts an end to tensions between the popular online store and Macmillan.

Although Macmillan is selling its electronic books for iPad at 12.99 dollars or 14.99 dollars, the same copies are sold on Amazon for the price competitive 9.99 dollars. In a statement, Amazon says they have no choice: “In the end we capitulate and accept the conditions of Macmillan, as the publisher holds the monopoly on some titles and we would have had to offer at a price too high for an ebook” .

For this reason, Amazon has decided to remove the titles published by Macmillan, as a sign of disagreement. And ‘interesting to note that the sale of books through Amazon will prove more convenient for the publishing house, but the moment remains firm on his decisions. With the commercialization proposal to 12.99 and 14.99 euros, Apple has managed to win at least five of the six largest publishers: Macmillan, Hachette, Penguin, Harper Collins and Simon & Schuster.

If the news published by the Wall Street Journal were confirmed, the publishing houses of favoring a relatively high selling price in the long term, hoping that the success of iTunes in the music business and mobile applications, will also move to electronic books.
